Simplicity 2369: Wrap top.

In an attempt to take the ideas of the last top (Butterick 5783) and make it more wearable I pulled this pattern back out and changed it a bit.
I haven't worn the last version of this top, much mainly because the ties tend to pull the back and side seam around towards the front if I do it up tight but if I don't do it up tight the neckline is too loose and I end up  periously close to flashing strangers!
So for this version I sewed the wrap tie ends into the side seams and added the ties separately. I like the sleeves and the crossover a lot more on this one, but I think the back and length of the Butterick pattern was nicer. I have the new Vogue 8825 pattern to make up soon and it seens to be the best of both worlds! I'm not using a polyester knit again though, it always feels like I"m wearing a plastic bag

Simplicity 2369: Button wrap top and Pants

Another version of 2369, this time I wanted to copy a RTW wrap top I had seen that buttoned up on both sides. After looking through my patterns I picked this one and decided just to do the buttons on one side. So I left off the tie and added a placket that I stitched the buttons to (they're non functioning).
I'm a bit iffy on it - I think the original wrap version is more flattering than this one, but its still wearable and it was only fabric from the Op-shop so no major loss.
Adjustment wise it's the same as the first time I made it , so a sz22 with a 1" FBA.

The fabric's a double knit that's a dusty purple, I used the back of the fabric as it was a bit darker and I like the zig-zag pattern that you can see if you look close. Buttons are a plastic pearl from my stash.

I made up the pants from this pattern as well.....I made the sz24 and didn't like the standard waistband at all, its just a sewn channel with 1" elastic in it. I never find elastic waistbands like that very flattering, so I cut them down a lot lower (about 3") and tried a contoured waistband with 3" elastic inside.
I'm not sure about them, the fabric's a bit too thin and I don't like the hip/waist area, too clingy and a bit lumpy - I've got enough lumps without pants making it look worse! The pattern itself is just a basic very wide leg pant, I think if I'd used a slightly thicker material they would be a lot more flattering, but they'll be ok as trackpants for at the gym and weekends.

Simplicity 2369 Blackberry top

I loved the last wrap top so much I made this one straight away.
Same adjustments as last time (sz 22 with a 1" FBA) but this knit was a bit more stretchier so I had to take in the back seam and side seams by about 3/4" each.
The fabric is a wool/viscose blend, its thinner than the last version but after wearing the teal one to work on a warmish day I wanted something that could breath. Its a beautiful blackberry colour, nice deep purple.

I ran out of hem tape so the bottom hem is unfinished, but I don't think its noticable plus its a knit so its not like it will unravel on me.

It's such an easy top to wear and to dress up or down depending on what you wear with it.

Simplicity 2369 wrap top

I think I'm in love! I've been searching for the ultimate comfortable flattering top and I think this is it!
Not sure what this fabric is (got it from the clearance table, lol), its like a thick jersey or ity knit, not as clingy as the mercury jersey I used on my Blank Canvas Tee which is nice, and it drapes beautifully.

I made the sz 22 with a 1" FBA which I rotated into the pleats. Heres pictures of both front pieces after the alterations.

The instructions called for turning under the neck binding and top stitching but I liked the look of it left out like a t-shirt binding so I left it

I hemmed it 4" shorter than the pattern but managed to hem it too short at the back, not too noticable I hope and I've adjusted the pattern for next time (which I've already cut out of a wool blend knit in a gorgeous blackberry colour)

It sewed up like a dream, I mostly used the serger and it only took a couple of hours.
Highly recommended!
