Sewaholic 1201: Kitty cat version

This jumper makes me so happy! I found this fleece fabric in Spotlight on a day trip to Warrnambool, its been sitting on my sewing desk for a few weeks now while I've been thinking about it. I had ideas of a hoodie or a peacoat but seeing Bobbin and Baste's top helped me simplify and make a basic jumper.

I've made the Renfrew top before but I wanted a lot more ease in this top so its a sz16 at the shoulders and graded out to approximately a 22-24 from the armholes down, plus added an extra 1" to upper arm width and did a 1" FBA which I eased into the side seam.
I made a muslin out of stash fleece and wore it around yesterday and then also added 2" to the length, forward shoulder of 1", lowered the neckline by 1" and dropped the armhole down by 1".

The pocket is a patch pocket traced from a hoodie I have.

I twin-needled the neck band and wristbands.

Insides are all overlocked.

The hem band could be a little tighter, I haven't worked with ribbing before and didn't realise how tight it needs to be sewn on.
I need more jumpers like this, its the perfect weekend top especially with the weather we've been having, plus it has cats on it!

Sewaholic 1201: Renfrew top - Cowl version

Another Renfrew! This is view C with the cowl neck (I needed a break from the Chanel Jacket!))
I used a wool blend knit and made the same size as last time - a 16 through the neckline and graded out to a 18/20 on the waist/sleeves.
I noticed a fair bit of swayback pooling on the last version and since I've had no success with the FFRP adjustment I tried a different method this time;

I scooped out about 1/2" extra on either side of the back piece only and I can notice a tiny difference but that could just be the material too.

I haven't had a cowl neck top before and I really love it, it's so snuggly and just perfect for winter.

I'm still playing around with photographing in my new space so apologies if the photos aren't that clear or I look a bit deranged, lol!

Sewaholic 1201: renfrew top again!

This time I got to sew it up for me! Its the view A with the elbow length sleeves - I used a cheap poly knit for this version, I wanted to check the fit before I used my nice fabric!
Its a size 16 through the shoulders/neckline and I graded out to a rough 18/20 on the sides plus added some width to the sleeves. I'm pretty happy with the fit, I have excess fabric at the lower back, which I've been trying to fix lately on some jacket muslins I've been working on and think it might have to do with my waist line being higher at the back than at the front - because a sway back adjustment doesn't fix it at all

This is how I'm wearing it today :) I'm still playing around with photographing in my new room, I took these a bit too early today for enough natural light and they're a bit crooked!

Happy Easter everyone! Don't eat too much chocolate, lol!

Sewaholic 1201 : Renfrew top

My daughters been bugging me for some long sleeve tops for a while, so when this pattern turned up it seemed a perfect match. I really like how it doesn't use much fabric so its perfect for all those scraps that I seem to accumulate!
Such an easy top to sew! I love the bands on the hem and sleeves - makes the finish look so much more professional! Its the first time I've zigzagged a top stitch too and I was worried it might look a bit dodgy but I reckon it finishes the top off great - I did it around the sleeve bands and hem as well.

I made her a sz8, graded to a 10 in the waist with 2" in length taken out from the sleeve and body length. The fabrics are thick knit fabrics I got thrifting ages ago - they're not quite as thick as a ponte knit but a lot thicker and more stable than a interlock - my overlocker didn't really like them so the finish on the inside looks a bit rough, but good enough for a basic knit top and I think its now her TNT top pattern!

Its the first project I've done in the new sewing room and I really need to set up the other desk for my overlocker and finish my cutting table! But otherwise it was great, lots of light which I wanted and its nice and quiet out there :)
