Stripy McCalls 6408

 

I've had this made for a week or so now but the weather has been so dreadful I haven't been able to take photos. I still only got a couple of pics in between rain downpours so the photos are a bit uninspired!

 

I really like this pattern, I've made it a few times now (including a slight disaster of a zebra print version last month, sounded like such a great idea but was way too overwhelming once made!) Grey version and Black version.

 

It has tons of included ease so this is a sz M with a 1" FBA, 2" upper arm width, 3" off the length, graded out at the hips and an added back seam for shaping.

 

The material is a striped ponte knit from fabric.com which is out of stock now unfortunately, its thinner than I what I would normally call a ponte but has just enough stretch and was lovely to sew.
 

I wear one of these cardigans at least once or twice a week through winter, they are so warm and comfy and so easy to throw on with a pair of jeans in the morning.

McCalls 6408: Black Tie Cardigan

I needed a palate cleanser after the jacket from hell so revisited this pattern. This time around I added a back seam to help get rid of the excess lower back fabric and added a bit of width to the hips. Its worked really well and fits a lot better than the last version (its shown up quite wrinkled in the photos but looks fine in real life). I did add extra to the hips but next version will have a little more again



Not much else to say but I love this pattern so much! I've worn the grey version heaps lately and the only bad thing I've noticed is the cheap ponte from Lincraft is pilling a lot more than I'd like (I have plans to get some wool blend ponte next time I go to Melbourne!)

McCalls 6408: Tie Cardigan

I loved Heather's version of this and since imitation is the best form of flattery, lol, I wanted one for me too!
I picked up this ponte knit at Lincraft (I love ponte! So nice to wear)


Its got heaps of ease included so I ended up cutting a szM and did a 1" FBA rotated out to the waist gathers plus a 2" upper arm adjustment and I cut about 3" off the length.


I'm pretty happy with the fit - I have some excess fabric at my lower back and it seems a little tight on my hips at the back so I might add in a back seam and add some extra width for for my hips on the next version.


I set the sleeves in flat, serged the seams and used clear elastic to stabilise the shoulder seams. I am a total convert to setting in sleeves flat, its easier to check the fit, you get no puckers on the sleeve head and its quicker - whats not to like!


I love it! It feels a bit like wearing a dressing gown because it is so comfortable, and I like how the ties give that bit of waist definition!
